Car Washing: Impacts and Solutions
Washing your car at home dumps oil, heavy metals, solvents and other harmful pollutants into storm drains, local streams, and eventually the Chesapeake Bay!
In February 2014, the City of Bothell, WA, asked the NPS Listserve (that’s NonPoint Source) for information pertaining to vehicle washing including everything from pollutant loading data to tested outreach materials. They compiled the information and posted the documents they received along with a runoff volume model that the City created which can be adapted for use in any area onto their webpage here.
