BUBBAs
Welcome to the Chesapeake Bay’s oldest and most prestigious stormwater contest!
The BUBBAs give stormwater practitioners across the Chesapeake Bay Watershed the opportunity to share and celebrate the work they are most proud of.
It also helps us share innovations and facilitate scalable urban stormwater management implementations—from New York to Virginia and everywhere in between.
Since 2014, CSN has hosted the BUBBAs every other year. While other low-impact development (LID) competitions focus on the design of new stormwater practices, CSN aims to recognize on-the-ground techniques being used to tackle difficult stormwater problems. Through the BUBBAs, we’re able to:
- Recognize innovators in the field who are using new and creative techniques to treat runoff and protect streams;
- Share these innovative techniques with other communities who could benefit from the lessons learned; and
- Inspire interaction among our 6,000+ member network of stormwater professionals throughout the Bay watershed and beyond.

Award Categories
Habitats & Streams
This category includes any restoration project that creates or restores a high-quality blend of wetland or upland wildlife habitats and/or projects designed to enhance the function, stability, and ecosystem services of an urban/suburban stream.Residential Stewardship Practice
This category recognizes exceptional stormwater practices installed on a residential property as well as the programs designed to enhance resident access to the resources needed to get them done. This category is open to both homeowners/designers as well as program staff.Resilient/Renewed
This category recognizes the best application of our more traditional stormwater practices implemented as retrofits, or for new and redevelopment. Any private or public sector project that creatively integrates green infrastructure practices into their site plans are encouraged to apply.Education & Outreach Impact
This category recognizes effective stormwater education and outreach campaigns that seek to change behaviors that tangibly reduce stormwater pollution in a community.
Stormwater Program Pioneers
This category recognizes specific program innovations in how local stormwater requirements are met that directly lead to improved water quality outcomes in local receiving waters. The submission must focus on a single initiative or program innovation, rather than an entire entity or MS4 program.
