Turfgrass Nutrient Management Bulletin

Our good friend Karl Guillard at the University of Connecticut shared with us a great Turfgrass Nutrient Management Bulletin that discusses turfgrass management based on water quality considerations.

The New England Regional Nitrogen and Phosphorus Associated Management Practice Recommendations for Lawns based on Water Quality Considerations discusses how turf grass is replacing cropland as one of the largest areas of managed land cover in the New England region. Nutrient losses from lawns may contribute significantly to the degradation of receiving waters while nutrient enrichment of groundwater is also of concern for environmental and human health reasons. The majority of lawncare companies and homeowners still rely on decades-old fertilization recommendations and practices which results in Phosphorus and Potassium being applied regardless of turfgrass needs. This document offers updated Nitrogen and Phosphorus fertilizer recommendations and management practices with the best information available based on the current science.
