Although only a portion of Delaware drains to the Bay, the State is experiencing water quality problems in the fast-growing watersheds that discharge to the Atlantic Coastal Bays. Therefore, a State-wide approach focus is appropriate for the Delaware stormwater action plan. DNREC is in the process of revising regulations and design manuals for both stormwater and erosion and sediment control.

  • Work with DNREC to develop more stringent stormwater and ESC requirements in its forthcoming regulations
  • Establish nutrient-based load limits to protect water quality in the inland Bays
  • Adapt ESD practices to meet demanding conditions of the flat coastal plain and changing coastal development patterns
  • Explore ditch restoration as an integrated stormwater and stream restoration strategy in the highly altered coastal drainage network
