New Guidance For Stream Restoration Protocols 2 & 3
There is a need for more accurate, site-specific data collection in the application of these protocols, which are designed to estimate sediment and nutrient reductions from stream restoration practices. Key updates include clearer definitions of bank armoring, with distinctions between non-creditable, creditable with limits, and fully creditable practices. The session also addresses the importance of monitoring techniques like DEM differencing, bank profile monitoring, and bulk density analysis to improve consistency in reporting and crediting for sediment reduction. Additionally, the webcast discusses the need to calibrate bank erosion assessments using updated methods and more precise erosion rate curves, particularly for different regions of the watershed. These guidelines are aimed at ensuring more accurate data and improving the effectiveness of stream restoration projects in meeting Chesapeake Bay water quality goals.
